Access Control Door Evaluations in Austin: What We Check
A reliable access-control proposal starts with the doors—not a generic per-door package. The lock, frame, exit hardware, egress path, power, cabling and software all have to work as one tested opening.

Avenger Security offers an initial phone or video consultation at no charge. This is the right first step when you can provide:
- the property address and approximate door count;
- photos of each door, frame and existing lock;
- floor plans or a door schedule when available;
- the desired credentials, schedules and administrator roles;
- information about any existing access-control platform.
The screening call helps determine whether the project is a straightforward budget request or needs an on-site evaluation before accurate pricing.
No-cost new-service site consultation
New-service consultation: New clients considering new services receive an on-site visit and up to one hour of consultation at no cost. Troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs and other technical service on existing systems are billed at standard service rates; when applicable, the standard on-site service visit is $195.
The scope can include:
- door handing, swing, frame and existing hardware;
- electric strike, electrified lockset or exit-device compatibility;
- reader and credential requirements;
- door-position monitoring and request-to-exit inputs;
- controller, power-supply and battery locations;
- cable routes, network availability and surge protection;
- door-held and forced-door notification requirements;
- interfaces that require approved plans or AHJ coordination.
Hardware is selected door by door
For standard commercial openings, Avenger Security generally prefers fail-secure electric strikes, electrified locksets or motorized latch-retraction hardware. These options can preserve outside security during a power loss while the inside lever or panic hardware provides mechanical free egress.
Magnetic locks are reserved for special approved configurations. They are fail-safe and can require additional release devices, emergency interfaces and life-safety coordination. A low equipment price does not necessarily produce a lower installed cost.
REX and door-position monitoring have different jobs
A request-to-exit input can suppress a forced-door alarm, document egress or support an approved release sequence. It should not be treated as the only means of unlocking a mechanically free-egress door.
The door-position switch confirms whether the door actually opened and closed. Using both inputs allows accurate forced-door, held-door and audit events. Read the full REX and door-hardware guide.
Cloud access control requires a subscription
Brivo and similar cloud-managed platforms require an active subscription. The recurring price depends on the number of doors, credentials, features and integrations. The proposal should separate hardware, installation and ongoing service so the ownership cost is clear.

What a complete proposal should show
- the controller and power architecture;
- hardware specified for each opening;
- readers and credential technology;
- door contacts, REX and alarm logic;
- installation labor and cabling assumptions;
- cloud or software subscriptions;
- permit, engineering or AHJ items when applicable;
- optional phases for future doors or sites.
